Jackson Owens on his latest EP ‘Now Forever’

Securing his place as one of the most exciting Aotearoa soul and R&B talents with over 20 million streams on Spotify, Jackson Owens tells us about his most recent project, performing with Allen Stone and more.

Hey Jackson - thanks for taking the time to chat to us! A huge congrats on your latest EP 'Now Forever'! What were your main artistic influences going into this project?

Wanted to capture some old school soul in my latest EP with artists that inspired and influenced me growing up such as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding & Ray Charles.

You start the project off with 'Keep Calling' which is our favourite song of yours right now! We love the immense amount of soul and emotion in your incredible vocal delivery and the gospel-choir inspired hits towards the end. Can you tell us about the concept of this track?

It’s about being so in love with someone you can’t get enough of and no matter how hard it gets you’ll always try your best to be with them.

Incredible. What was your favourite part about working on 'Keep Calling'?

Just working with my mates and family - worked with Tautahanga Rameka, Chauncey Owens and Kings. That session was definitely my favourite session I’ve ever done.

And we also can't get enough of the title track ‘Now Forever’! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this song?

‘Now Forever’ is about cherishing the little moments in a relationship, being present and wanting love to last forever.

Love it! What were some your most memorable moments working on the EP?

Working with amazing people like Mikey Dam, Kings, Rory Noble, Chauncey Owens and Tautahanga Rameka.

We saw a video of you performing with the globally renowned artist Allen Stone which completely blew us away! What was that experience like?

Definitely a highlight of my career so far getting to perform with an idol, and just chill and talk with him was amazing - something I will never forget.

What are the most important lessons you’ve learnt in your musical journey so far and what advice do you have for other artists out there?

Most importantly, believe in yourself and have people that believe in you on your team.

What's next for you in 2024?

I am working on singles atm can’t wait to drop them so excited for 2024 🙏

Thanks heaps Jackson! Make sure to keep up with him on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Spotify or Apple Music.
