PARK RD on their new single ‘Every Night’
Straight after playing main stage at R&V as well as opening for The Band CAMINO and Milky Chance, 5-piece indie-pop band PARK RD are back for 2024 with their biggest track yet.
Hey lads - congrats on your new single 'Every Night'! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration and concept behind this track?
Leo: It's inspired about this girl i just met, i though she was really cool and I thought she went out every night, she was just like an enigma and now I date her.
How did you come up with the initial idea for this song, and what was the writing and production process like?
Leo: The band were all in the studio, recording vocals for another track and I was in the studio over making a beat, then Angus our guitairist came in to the room and I got him to play guitar over it. I wrote most of the melodies off what he was playing, and then the verse can to me really quickly. We recorded it straight in a demo and then the band came in and I played it to them and everyone was like "woah"! Then Carlos came up with this crazy bassline, Tom came up with the chorus and I repeated it back which is how we ended up with the cool call and response element.
What was one of your main highlights working on 'Every Night'?
Tom: The whole thing was a vibe - the energy in the room was crazy and it all just came together.
You've played some amazing festivals recently such as Le Currents, R&V, Golden Lights & Soundsplash and you just opened for The Band Camino as well as Milky Chance at Powerstation! What has been your favourite part about performing live over the past couple of months?
Leo: Going to Australia to play music was crazy - we went and performed for SXSW Sydney and now we are working through a return tour. Playing main stage at R&V was pretty wild to play some of the biggest crowds yet and same for opening for Milky Chance who have been a longtime favourite of ours.
If there were 3 artists you could open for or collaborate on a song with, what artists would they be?
Tom: I reckon it would be cool doing a project or like an album with Rick Rubin, that would be mad - he's got the guru vibes.
Leo: Damon Albarn, I'd love to write a song with him his work with Gorillaz and Blur is insane ALSO I would love for us to open for Placebo they are freaking legendary.
Carlos: Ken Andrews would be sick (he mixed Paramore's self titled album, it was so fresh and clean). I think that would really compliment our sound and he is the mastermind behind one of my favourite bands Failure.
What's next for you in 2024?
Leo: We have our debut album The Novel due for release in May with an Australian and New Zealand tour in the works to celebrate it's release, we are already working on new music that we are fizzing about and are hoping to lock in a huge summer of festivals again this year.
