“BREATHE” - SAMSON LIVE

Samson Live deliver your favourite summer festival feels in their debut single ‘Breathe’. Formed by Sam Allen (Vocals, Guitar, Bass) and Sam Jones (Saxophone and Keys) as an experiment to see if they could bring a completely live instrumental set to the club scene, the duo quickly gained momentum and were asked to bring their infectious live offering to the stages of RnV, Sunsetter and Highlife.

Serving refreshing house with a side of introspection & awakening, the track organically fuses an entrancing atmospheric soundscape with heavy soul-hitting drops featuring Allen’s mesmerising vocals - a thrilling debut from the duo.

WE’D LOVE TO KNOW A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR MUSICAL JOURNEY SO FAR FROM WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER!

Yo! We both come from pretty different musical backgrounds - Sam A started out as an acoustic singer songwriter, and Sam J started as a classical pianist, and then got into DJ’ing later down the track. We met backstage at a gig, talked some smack and then decided to start a house duo. It’s been an incredibly fun experience, and we’ve both learnt heaps by pushing ourselves to see how far we can go with our live sets.

CONGRATS ON YOUR INCREDIBLE DEBUT RELEASE “BREATHE”- WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF THIS TRACK AND THE INSPIRATION BEHIND IT?

Gracias! The track was made as a reminder, mainly to ourselves, to be conscious of our breath. We tend to take shallow breaths when shits hitting the fan, and 20/21, was well.. yea.. so the song became a little mantra to us, and hopefully to others.

WHAT WAS THE WRITING & PRODUCTION PROCESS FOR “BREATHE” LIKE?

We usually write songs by jamming with our full live set up, and just seeing what we come up with on our feet. Sam A pretty much freestyled the lyrics/melody in one take, and then for the next year we just figured out how to actually produce it and make a song haha.

WHAT WERE YOUR MAIN HIGHLIGHTS WORKING ON THE TRACK?

It’s pretty daunting releasing music, we think one of the highlights was finally hitting the green light, and actually releasing the tune. Also getting creative in production and actually learning how to mix was a trip haha.

WHO WOULD YOU SAY ARE YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS IN MUSIC?

Sam A: Changes every year, at the moment an artist by the name of ‘Stimming’

Sam J: At the moment it’s Folamour, but I love Diplo’s new house stuff, Lido’s remixes and Debussy/Ravel.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE NZ ARTISTS RIGHT NOW AND ARE THERE ANY SONGS IN PARTICULAR THAT YOU LOVE OR CONNECT WITH?

Loving house music by Frank Keys, loving the work ethic of Troy Kingi, and huge fans of Louis Baker, Noah Slee, and heaps others. Too many to name!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING IN NEW ZEALAND? DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL TO OR LOCAL SPOTS YOU LOVE TO VISIT?

Love the vibe of everywhere north of Auckland - Mangawhai, Matakana, Tutakaka. Also Coromandel Peninsula is unreal!

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST LESSONS YOU’VE LEARNT AS AN ARTIST SO FAR

Always be truthful and sincere, you’ll never have to backtrack on anything you create.

LASTLY, IF YOU COULD SAY ONE THING TO EVERY PERSON IN THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Keep making things better for yourself and the people around you. Everything else will follow!

THANKS SO MUCH LADS! MAKE SURE YOU KEEP UP WITH THEM ON INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK, SPOTIFY OR APPLE MUSIC.
