Q&A: RAZÉ
Damn. We don’t think you’re even ready for this one! After taking a small hiatus from releasing music last year, Auckland born & raised soul/R&B artist RAZÉ is back bigger than ever. She’s previously won Best Pacific Female Artist and Best Pacific Soul/R&B Artist, and now she’s coming for the R&B throne bringing her fierce, sultry vocals for her latest track “DO ME ONE” ft. Omega Levine.
We’d love to know a little bit about your musical journey so far from when you first started singing!
I started singing when I was 8 years old when my parents decided to sign me up for a school choir, where I was actually assigned a solo, nerves! I decided I also liked to write poems too. When I turned 18, I decided to do a Bachelors in Creative Arts where I studied music as well as Dance, Drama, Musical Theatre etc.
From there I met my producer in 2014 at a dance class and he asked me if I would like to write to a beat. Really enjoyed being in the studio and from there the rest is history. We now have an album, 7 singles, 7 Music Videos and 2 tracks that were nominated in the Pacific Music Awards in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, I received Best Pacific Female Artist and Best Soul/R&B Artist at the Pacific Music Awards. Super proud of everyone who's helped me get to where I am! So blessed.
Wow, “DO ME ONE” is a fire, world-class R&B tuuuune! And your vocals are absolutely insane. 🔥 Can you tell us a little bit about what inspired you to write this track?
Thank you! “DO ME ONE” was definitely written in the moment. I remember the night we wrote it I was just imagining what the song would look like and sound like. It gave me vibes of just meeting someone for the first time and that this is the only chance you get to do something crazy with them.
Plus, such a dope feature from kiwi artist Omega Levine! How did that come about?
Omega Levine and I go way back, so when I asked him to be on the track he is was super keen!
What were some of your main highlights working on the track?
Main highlights of working on “DO ME ONE” was the process of creating the visuals. I normally come up with storyboards for my own music videos and that’s another passion of mine is creating a whole short movie you get to implant into peoples brains.
We can’t wait to hear more of your music! Have you got anything else in the works that you can tell us about? 👀
Yes! You can catch me on the Samaon Stage at Pasifica this year in March. Also follow me on all socials because I have a lot more coming up and not just with music either. Leshgo!
Who are your biggest inspirations in music?
Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston & Tori Kelly
If there’s anything you could change about the current music industry, what would it be and why?
Some songs are just way to explicit, that's all I’m going to say lol
Who are some of your favourite NZ artists right now and are there any songs in particular that you love or connect with?
What do you love most about living in New Zealand? Do you have any favourite places to travel to or local spots to visit?
The thing that I love about New Zealand is the cool breeze, beaches, nature, and the food of course! Favourite place to travel to is the Coromandel for sure. Local spots for me is food centres lol.
What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learnt in your career so far?
To always be true to yourself, never leave anything out when it comes to your projects and never stop growing!
Lastly, if you could say one thing to every person in the world, what would it be?
Live your life to the fullest! We only got one shot!
Thanks RAZÉ! Make sure you keep up with her on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify & Apple Music.
