Unpack the Track: Sylvee’s ‘Slow’

NELSON-BASED SINGER-SONGWRITER SYLVEE TALKS TO US ABOUT HER ETHEREAL NEW TRACK 'SLOW'

‘Slow' is an absolute masterpiece - your ethereal vocals filled with raw emotion woven together with lush soundscapes and dramatic production makes this song so mesmerising to listen to. Can you tell us about the concept of this song?

hat's very kind of you, thank you! I wrote 'Slow' when a friend of mine was in a really low place, and I wanted to support them. I eventually learned that giving them space was the best gift I could give them, even though I felt useless. I wanted them to know that it was ok to take their time, but that they weren't alone, and this was the only way I knew how to say it.

What were your artistic influences for this song?

It was really one of those songs that just came out. It definitely doesn't always happen that way! I wanted the production to stay true to the feeling of the song, and Joel nailed it.

What was the writing & production process like?

I wrote 'Slow' at home, and honestly it's such a personal song I never thought I'd release it. Sometimes songs really are just for yourself, but after my wonderful friend Joel Jones worked on it with me, it felt right to put it out. Joel really made it special.

What was your main highlight working on 'Slow'?

I think the process of writing the song, putting feelings into words, and finishing with an understanding of how I felt about the situation. It felt like a weight off, or like I could move on without being stuck in a dark cloud.

We can't wait to hear more music from you! What can we expect?

The next single isn't far away, but it's very different from ‘Slow’. You can definitely expect to feel empowered, and will hopefully want to get up and dance to it!

Make sure you keep up with Sylvee on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify or Apple Music.
