Unpack the Track: PRINS on ‘Hazardous’

NZ’S NEWEST POP PRINCESS PRINS TELLS US ABOUT HER TRACK 'HAZARDOUS' AND LATEST EP 'LIFE IS BETTER NOW'

Huge congrats on releasing your EP 'LIFE IS BETTER NOW'! We'd love to chat to you about one of our favourite singles from the EP - 'Hazardous'! Can you tell us about the concept of this track and the inspiration behind it?

Thank you so much!! ‘Hazardous’ is honest to it’s core and tells a story of the feeling of uncertainty, when falling completely for somebody you have known for a while. It dives deep into a softer, more vulnerable side of my songwriting which is quite a new territory for me.

What were your main artistic influences going into this song?

I'd say the main influence for this song was Julia Michaels however, I wasn't thinking about this at the time of writing.

What was the writing & production process like?

The original demo of this song was actually a lot faster and upbeat and took and few times going back and forth with my production team to get it sitting where I wanted it. I really wanted to spend time on showcasing my vocals in this track to add a new dynamic to the EP.

What was your main highlight working on 'Hazardous'?

Honestly the highlight was finally putting it out for people to hear! I was really excited to share something that was so different to what I'm used to putting out.

How is 'life better now' and what's next for you?!

I'm already back in studio working on new music! The release of the EP has been a major milestone for me this year and I'm wanting to follow it up with something bigger and better. In the meantime I have a few festivals lined up for summer so if you're at Soundsplash or Electric Ave next year, definitely come watch the set and say hi! :)

Make sure you keep up with PRINS on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify or Apple Music!
