Hey Lauren, thanks so much for taking the time to chat to us! Congrats on your amazing new EP 'Adrenaline' - did you have an idea of what type of EP you wanted to create going into writing this?

It's a pleasure to always chat with Hype Medium! I wanted to create a fun, vibrant and euphoric EP that ranged from heavier bass tunes all the way through to lighter and catchy bops. The 5 tracks on 'Adrenaline' are a perfect blend of Trap meets Future Bass and even some light Drum & Bass in there too! Overall, this EP titled 'Adrenaline' is a reflection of my crazy fun life where I'm constantly doing extreme sports and thrill-seeking activities.

How do you think your sound has evolved since your last EP project in 2020, 'Supernova'?

It's definitely a hot heavier. ‘Supernov'a’ was almost like an introduction to what was yet to come as I got deeper with my production of bass music. The drops are way more intense - I always love changing the drum patterns and the way I incorporate vocalists is a lot more catchy and perhaps edging on electro-pop. Both EPs however are still Trap & Future Bass genres, so I've remained a Bass head at heart!

The title track 'Adrenaline' is an absolute banger and one of the best drops we've heard in a while! What was writing and production process from the first sonic idea to the final product?

Thank you! 'Adrenaline' (the song) was so much fun to write. It's very much inspired by Flume. I set out to create something light and fluffy and I knew I wanted vocal chops in there. The production process changed a lot if I think back to the first draft. The first project looked like a more traditional Future Bass track with longer chord progressions. As I iterated, I shortened the length of the chords so it gave a 'stab' effect which ultimately creates that fun Flume-esque bounce.

Plus, we love the female collaborations on this EP with Reshma featured in 'Flight' and JANAYAH in 'Remedy'! How did each of these collabs come about?

Both such talented Kiwi women right? Both Reshma and JANAYAH I stumbled upon on Instagram. I found little clips of them singing and I knew I wanted a collaboration. JANAYAH had already sung on an electronic track and she smashed her vocals. I was excited when she agreed to collab with me! With Reshma, I sent her my demo of ‘Flight’ and she sent me a video of her back humming a melody over the chorus and it was a pretty magical moment. Not long after, we were in the studio together creating something special.

What were your some of your favourite moments working on the EP?

Definitely my collaborations (mentioned above), the weird waves of creativity that would strike me at 1am and also being able to share the first demo versions with my friends and seeing their reactions. I started this EP almost two years ago, and I was working on it when I was based in Bali for two months and then traveled a bit. I would produce at my villa, even took my laptop to the beach, cafes, and I would produce when I was on the plane. Strangely, I achieved a lot with just me and Ableton on any flight so it's nice to look back at those moments outside of a studio that helped form the EP.

Living the dream! What is your biggest piece of advice for other kiwi DJs, producers and artists out there?

Stay true to your original sound! There may be a lot of noise in the industry in general and more genres popular than others, but your unique beautiful sound will find it's way through. If you are passionate about your style of music and particular sound, then do not change that for what you think people want to hear. Make sure every musical decision is driven by your heart!

We see you're on the R&V lineup for this year which is super exciting! What are you looking forward to most about that performance?

I can't wait to share this! I have brand new visuals that includes footage of me and also an entirely brand new set. I'm excited to play out my EP, drop some remixes I've been working on and also traverse through Trap, Future Bass, some DNB and Bass House. It's going to be great!

Amazing! And what's next for you for the rest of the year & beyond?

The next few months are looking really exciting as I’ll be touring my EP over summer in New Zealand! I have a few gigs in the North Island and also Sydney, and then I may be releasing another track early next year ... ! Stay tuned.

Thanks so much Lauren! Make sure to keep up with her on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify or Apple Music.
