Auckland-based pop sensation Indyah is on her way up and we’re here for the ride! We’re absolutely obsessed with her mesmerising vocals and catchy, signature pop/RnB production. She’s dropped hit after hit including “That Night”, “WYS (what you saying)” and “Lockdown” with hundreds and thousands of streams, and now she chats to us about her latest single “Dynamite” produced by LMC (Rich the Kid, Lil Skies, Swae Lee).

We’d love to know a little bit about your musical journey so far from when you first started singing?

So I started singing pretty much as soon as I could talk haha, but I started writing music when I was 6. I come from a really musical family, my Dad is a full time musician and he always has been so I haven't really known life without it. I decided I wanted to do music as a career when I turned 10 and from then I haven't changed my mind. I moved to Auckland when I was 16 and started my music journey anddd now I’m here!

We can’t stop listening to “Dynamite”, it’s a pop/RnB masterpiece! Can you tell us a little bit about the meaning behind this track and what inspired you to write it?

I’m so glad you like it, thank you! This track is a bit more on the emotional side for me in terms of my other tracks I've put out. This song is about feeling like your love with someone is sooo intense it’s gonna explode, hence the lyric “Dynamite” haha. I wanted to capture that feeling of when you bump into someone and they ask you questions about the stuff you used to talk about like “did you ever get around to buying that mansion?” - looking back on something that was super intense and passionate but also good at some point. So yeah, I think this song to sum it up is about something being very fiery and intense but also beautiful.

What was your main highlight working on “Dynamite”?

Definitely working with platinum producer LMC - this is our 4th track we have done together and I just love every track that we make. He is the best, and the best human too <3

We’re so pumped to hear more of your music! What can you tell us about your upcoming tracks, and do you have an EP/album on the way soon? 👀

Yay! I have some more singles coming soon, and yes, DEFINITELY an EP soon.

Who are your biggest inspirations in music?

Ohhh, I absolutely love Julia Michaels her songwriting is beautiful. Juice WRLD - I love that I can hear his emotions in every lyric he sings. Also LMC, the hardest working producer I have ever met. He makes like 15 beats a day, the goat.

If there’s anything you could change about the current music industry, what would it be and why?

I think for me, I’d love to know more people are being checked on. It can be a really hard and lonely industry and I just wish people’s mental health was checked on more frequently <3

Who are some of your favourite NZ artists right now and are there any songs in particular that you love or connect with?

Everyone LMC produces for - Raka, Kid Rey! They are killing it. I honestly love all NZ music, we have SO many talented artists here.

What do you love most about living in New Zealand? Do you have any favourite places to travel to or local spots to visit?

New Zealand is so beautiful, I’m from Nelson so my favourite place to travel is Ngakuta Bay near Picton - it is the most beautiful place in the world.

What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learnt in your career so far?

Listen to what YOUR heart is saying not everyone else's. Work with people who make you happy as a person as well as make you happy with the music you’re making. Take time to help people who want advice.

Lastly, if you could say one thing to every person in the world, what would it be?

Wear a damn mask haha.

Thanks so much Indyah! Make sure to keep up with her on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify & Apple Music.
