“Anyone” - Meg Theron

The 20 year old Wellington-based artist & producer recently dropped this incredible alt-hip-hop track, and we’re absolutely obsessed!

Congrats on your new single! Where did you get the initial idea and inspiration for the song?

Thank you! I came across the main ukulele sample when I was just searching one day and something just sparked. After adding the little plucks, the rest of the production kind of wrote itself. Lyrically it was one of those word vomit moments. I think I had some things that had been on my mind for a while, mixed with still feeling in the zone from just finishing another track, the momentum was there.

Can you tell us a little bit about the meaning behind the track?

I think I had some residual feelings I never quite processed from different relationships and situations in the past. There’s a part of you that so desperately wants to move on from people that hurt you or from situations that didn’t work out; so in the first verse it’s this kind of this “ok, now what?” moment of admitting how you feel and sitting in that acceptance. Trying to move on from someone can be tough, especially when you realise you don’t want to.

What was the process like for writing, producing and recording this single?

The track was finished pretty quickly, sometimes it takes months, sometimes hours. This was one of those times where everything just worked. I recorded all the vocals and produced the track myself in my bedroom and it was mixed by one of my very talented mates, Ethan Baldey.

What were some of your main highlights working on the song?

I think being able to express myself in a style of music I've been working towards has been the coolest part. It’s pretty different from other stuff I’ve released, so being able to see people's positive reaction to that has been dope.

Would you rather never be able to keep anyone else’s secrets or have someone tell all of your secrets? 🤔😂

That’s so tough! Probably have someone tell all my secrets. Being able to be somebody that people trust with their shit is too important to give up.

Thanks heaps! Make sure to keep up with Meg Theron on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify or Apple Music.
